Summer Reading

I always seem to read more books in the summer. The porch beckons me to enjoy the warm sunshine in the late afternoons, so a good book is necessary. I just finished reading, The Invisible Thread, an incredible true story about the serendipitous meeting of a successful advertising executive and a young panhandler living on the streets of NYC. Unable to put it down, I read it in a few short days. A few books I currently have in my Amazon cart.

April Resolution Experiment

(source unknown)

March is at an end, and April has arrived. I just wish spring would have received the memo as well. Who is tired of those cold winds?

Well, the smoothie resolution was fantastic and has since evolved into a habit. I love being intentional about my grocery shopping, finding new recipes, and  researching proteins to add. For April, I'm going to choose something that I've missed so much in the last few months. You see, I usually go in phases with book reading. I'll find 3-4 books that I love and absorb in a  month or so, and then I have my dry spells. Ever since reading Grace in December, I have yet to find a book that I just can't put down.

Safe and Sound

I do hope Hurricane Sandy didn't prove too adventurous for you, East Coasters. We hunkered down all day with kettle popcorn, episodes of Mad Men, Little Women and Cloud Atlas by candlelight, Manhattans, wedding planning and interwoven naps. Luckily, we only lost power in the wee hours of the night. Hope all were safe and enjoyed the quiet hours at home.

A weekend at home

(photo from our weekend in Long Island)

What are you doing this weekend? I have little to no plans, and as sad as that may sound, I am fairly elated! A dinner with boy tonight, lunch with a friend tomorrow at Teaism and possibly a matinee showing thrown in there somewhere. Crazy plans, I know! I will however be . . .

A Long Island Weekend

Philip and I are heading to Long Island tonight for a long weekend at a family beach house. I am so looking forward to getting away and to a new place, no less. Here are some things I'm packing and looking forward to over the weekend . . .

(1) My guilty pleasure reading on flights and beach getaways is always Vogue; how about you? (2) I just picked up a 70's inspired crochet beach cover-up similar to the above from TopShop (3) I've said it before, but I'll say it again, I love Bobbi Brown's beach body oil; it's perfect for a weekend on the shore. (4) I was unable to find a photo that exemplified gumption, because that's what I need to pull off my new suit via Haute Look (5) Are Long Island Iced Teas hip to drink in Long Island? I hope so.

Pool Days

A summer cold kept me from seeing my nephews this weekend, but I made do with the impromptu D.C. weekend, including a BBQ festival, a relentless heatwave, and many movies in the A.C. On Sunday, I twisted boy's arm to take me to the pool. Deviating from the usual "beach lists", here's what we brought to keep us content and entertained.
