On self pity

Funny Cry for Help Ecard: I go through far too much Kleenex for someone who's never sick.

It’s been almost a month since I last posted. Heavens, how time does fly. I have about three posts sitting in my draft box just waiting to be posted, but alas, time has not been on my side these last few weeks. Wedding planning is in full gear; oh, and did I tell you that I was in Ethiopia for work these last couple weeks? I just returned Saturday, and it was an amazing time. More on that later . . .

I have to tell you, reader, that I was completely overwhelmed last night. My dress arrived while I was out of the country, and I was counting the days to when I could try it on.  So,  yesterday morning, I anxiously tried it on at 6am as jet lag kicked in. And, I was . . . completely . . . completely underwhelmed. The ill-fitting lacy ensemble hung off me like a  nightgown. The size was all wrong, and the material was heavy like drapery. This along with family disputes via wedding planning left me in tears and pitying myself. And then, I felt even more pathetic. You see, while in Ethiopia, I had the opportunity to travel the country and visit some amazing development projects. And, while the opportunity was incredible; the poverty surrounding me was extreme. I abruptly wiped my tears and reminded myself that crying over a silly dress was absurd. Just absurd.

I cannot wait to show you pictures from Ethiopia; it was a time of great reflection and perspective for me, and I don’t think the trip could have come at a better time.

  1. 1. So, so glad you're back, Dearest...both blog-wise and physically.
    2. Booo for wedding dresses that could double as 9-months-pregnant-with-twins attire. :(
    3. Love you.
